This week was a very productive week down at the spring. I cleaned and put back online eight well points brining the G.P.M went from 70 Gallons per minute to 80, there is still three well point to clean.
To clean a well point is an involved process, All the well points run off gravity there is twenty-one well point s total that all run to what we call the head work’s and from there the water gets chlorinated as it enters the contact basin. The contact basin has four chambers that allow the water to remain in there for a predetermined amount of time before the water is pumped to distribution. To clean a well point you first break the siphon disconnect the black Polly line ( Black plastic water line) from the well point and the head works I then dump some CL ( chlorine) inside the Polly line Make a pig ( a waded up paper towel )that fits snug in the Polly line hook the water hose up to the Polly line at the head works and let it run, this scrubs and sanitizes the line at the same time, once the water runs clean out of the other end I turn the water off and leave the hose hooked up until I am ready to reactivate the well.
I then take the top of the well point off and dump Cl inside the well point, I have a Brisiel brush that fits snug inside the well that I can run all the way to the bottom of the well scrubbing the screen and well point clean, I then take the top of the well point fittings and the fittings from the head works and scrub them in chlorine water solution once those are clean I put them back in there respective spots hooking the Polly line up to the well I then disconnect the hose at the other end, the water in the Polly line creates the siphon its like siphoning gas out of your car.
