Dockton Community Building! Let’s Do It!

Dockton Community Building! Let’s Do It!

What a great group we had on Friday morning for our Dockton Schoolhouse “kickoff” meeting. BRAVO!

We exchanged a lot of information and ideas. Clearly, we have folks bringing experience and skills and energy to our project!

An important take-away is that a focus on the “building” would overshadow the broadly shared interest in “community”. Perhaps we can be well guided by the idea that the old schoolhouse can be a “community building” for “community building”.

During the meeting, we identified 3 core “work groups” that can consider and propose our first steps as an organization. The groups are:

  • MISSION/USES: considering the uses and purposes of the building and the interests of the community.
    • Jeanne Marie, Barbara, Rose, Alleson, Bruce, Penny, Cory, Anna
  • ENTITY/ADMIN: preparing the “corporate” or paperwork side of things that can best serve the mission.
    • Todd, Jacq, Toni
  • FACILITY/FUNCTION: thinking through what’s needed, near-term and longer term to fix up the space, including minimalist initial uses (and related costs)
    • Rose, Paul, Lisa, Alleson, Cory, Peter, Laura, Nat

The COMMS team is: Sue, Bev, Jessie and Todd

Of course, these three core work groups plus comms are dependent on each other. Somehow, it all needs to coalesce! (We are looking at some collaboration tools…)

If you signed up for a work group, you will soon receive more information and an invitation to the first meeting of the group. If you did not yet sign up for a group, or if you would like more information, respond to this post with a comment (below) or contact Sue Winn by email at bobnsue@mcn.org or by text at 541-784-6466.

Thanks, again, for taking time on a beautiful morning to throw your hat in the ring! Here we go!

Todd
