Water main break.
Wednesday night at 6:30 I received a phone call from a customer down at lower Sandy shores complaining about low water pressure and at the same time a couple of others. When I got down to Sandy Shores the P.R.V (pressure reducing valve) was moving so much water the pressure gauge in the vault was reading 20P.S.I normally is 60P.S.I. It didn’t take long to find! The break was at the East end of Lower Sandy Shores I was able to isolate the leak by turning a valve way down to where water was barely coming out of the ground but still providing water to customers at the east end of sandy shores.

Wondering why these leaks happen? Was there something that caused the pipe to break? Or is it just age?
Hi David,
I think that some of this is due to pressure fluctuation problems there is a very old pressure reducing valve (PRV) for that area that I think is the cause of that and the pipe is past its prime as well. I have an engineer working on engineering plans that will relocate a new P.R.V and vault as the old one is in a bad spot to begin with hopefully that can be completed next fiscal year 2022/2023.
Dave.
